With broadband prices on the rise over the last couple of years, you could be forgiven if you no longer have any idea how much you’re actually paying for your particular package. And now new research has revealed that 33 per cent of customers are currently unaware of when their contract comes to an end.

The Comparethemarket.com study also found that 13 per cent don’t know whether their bills have increased, decreased or if they’ve stayed the same over the last three years. And 52 per cent say they don’t know what kind of speeds they need – so more than 13 million households could actually be paying for more than they require.

Head of energy and utilities at the price comparison site Peter Earl said: “Whilst price is clearly viewed as the deciding factor when it comes to choosing a broadband package, our research findings suggest that many customers may not actually have a view on whether what they pay is appropriate. In a price-hike world, where the cost of internet packages is often rising, it is concerning to see that so many customers seem to be in the dark around the conditions of their contract.”
